Slow travel to cold placesUpdated 18 September 2026Subscribe RSS

A magazine for people who take the long way.

Northbound publishes one story a week about travelling slowly to northern places: islands, mountains, small cities and the trains, buses and ferries between them.

We pay our own way, we don't accept free trips, and we only write about places we have actually been. If something in a guide is out of date, tell us and we will fix it.
